GreenGAS
Green Gas is a propane-butane mixture used to power gas airsoft guns. It contains silicone oil that lubricates the gun’s internal mechanism during firing.
What is Green Gas?
Green Gas consists of roughly 90% propane, 8–10% butane, and a small amount of silicone oil. A laboratory analysis by the University of Toronto confirmed it is chemically standard propane with added lubricant.
The gas is filled directly into the gun’s magazine through a valve. At room temperature, pressure reaches 115–145 PSI (8–10 bar). One magazine holds enough gas for 30–50 shots, depending on the model.
Green Gas vs CO2
| Feature | Green Gas | CO2 |
|---|---|---|
| Pressure | 115–145 PSI (8–10 bar) | 700–900 PSI (50–62 bar) |
| Power (FPS) | Lower | Higher |
| Blowback kick | Weaker | Stronger |
| Lubrication | Contains silicone oil | Requires separate lubrication |
| Gun wear | Lower | Higher |
| Winter use | Unreliable below 10 °C | Reliable |
When to use Green Gas
Green Gas works best for summer games at temperatures above 10–15 °C. Below this threshold, gas pressure drops and the gun loses power. For winter conditions, choose CO2 or Red Gas with higher pressure.
Its lower pressure puts less stress on internal parts. Green Gas guns last longer and need fewer repairs than CO2 models.
Filling and storage
Hold the canister upside down and press it against the magazine valve. Fill for 3–5 seconds until the hissing stops. You cannot overfill a magazine.
Store magazines with a small amount of gas (enough for 2–3 shots). Empty magazines dry out and the O-rings lose their seal. Fully loaded magazines put unnecessary strain on the seals.
