Het pistool Umarex T4E Heckler&Koch SFP9 is geschikt voor recreatief schieten en hoewel het niet bedoeld is voor wedstrijddoelschieten, presteert het goed bij het schieten op blikjes en andere oefendoelen.
Dankzij de combinatie van een metalen slede en een polymeer frame is het totaalgewicht van het wapen laag. Hoewel het pistool relatief licht is, is het toch vrij robuust.
T4E Heckler&Koch SFP9 gebruikt een CO2-patroon van 12g als aandrijving, die samen met de munitie direct in het magazijn wordt geplaatst. Het magazijn is geschikt voor gebruik met rubberkogels kaliber .43 en heeft een capaciteit van 8 schoten.
Het werkingsprincipe van het CO2-systeem is als volgt: Er wordt een kleine patroon in het wapen geplaatst, die via een mechanische sluiting op een doorn wordt geprikt. Bij het intrekken van de trekker slaat de haan op het klepstuk en opent het klep. Hierdoor stroomt CO2-gas uit het flesje, waardoor de kogel uit de loop wordt gedreven.
Het pistool Umarex T4E Heckler&Koch gebruikt een trekkermechanisme in Single Action-modus. Vóór het eerste schot moet de slede naar achteren worden getrokken en vervolgens worden losgelaten om het hamermechanisme te spannen. Dankzij het Blowback-systeem, dat na het schot automatisch de haan terugtrekt, kan daarna verder worden geschoten door simpelweg de trekker in te drukken.
Het pistool is uitgerust met een veiligheidspal tegen ongewenst afgaan, ook wel palveiligheid genoemd. Deze veiligheidspal wordt ook gebruikt op Glock-pistolen. Om het wapen te ontgrendelen en het schot af te vuren, moet je de trekker samen met de pal indrukken.
