La pistola Umarex T4E Heckler&Koch SFP9 se usa para el tiro defensivo y, aunque no está pensada para el tiro deportivo de competición, también se desenvuelve bien en el tiro recreativo sobre latas y otros blancos de práctica.
Gracias a la combinación de un cierre metálico y un armazón de polímero, el peso total del arma es bajo. Aunque la pistola es relativamente ligera, sigue siendo bastante robusta.
La T4E Heckler&Koch SFP9 funciona con una bombona de CO2 de 12 g como propulsor, que se inserta junto con la munición directamente en el cargador. El cargador permite usar munición tipo Rubber Ball de calibre .43 y tiene una capacidad de 8 bolas.
El principio de funcionamiento del sistema CO2 es el siguiente: en el arma se coloca una pequeña bombona que, mediante un cierre mecánico, se perfora con un punzón. Al apretar el gatillo, el percutor golpea la válvula y esta se abre. Así comienza a fluir el gas CO2 de la bombona, que empuja el proyectil fuera del cañón.
La pistola Umarex T4E Heckler&Koch utiliza un mecanismo de disparo en modo Single Action. Antes del primer disparo hay que tirar de la corredera hacia atrás y luego soltarla para amartillar el mecanismo de percusión. Gracias al sistema Blowback, que amartilla automáticamente el mecanismo tras el disparo, para seguir disparando basta con apretar el gatillo.
La pistola está equipada con un seguro contra disparos accidentales llamado seguro de lengüeta. Este seguro también lo usan las pistolas Glock. Para desactivar el seguro y poder disparar debes apretar el gatillo junto con la lengüeta del seguro.
